The original winner of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, will have the honors of singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XLVI. But how long will her rendition of the national anthem be? That’s where Vegas comes in.
As Kegs N’ Eggs’ Adam Kramer notes, the over/under on Clarkson’s national anthem duration is 1:32. Last year, in Super Bowl XLV, Christina Aguilera took her time with the anthem, stretching it to 1:54 and making the over/under a push despite screwing up a line. Aguilera is a belter who relies on melisma, though, while Clarkson, whose voice is certainly on par with Aguilera’s in many respects, tends to sing things a little straighter.
There’s also a possibility that Clarkson will see this as an opportunity to outdo fellow Idol alums who have hit the high note on “Freeeeee!” at the Super Bowl; she’s the fourth Idol contestant to get the chance to sing at America’s biggest sporting event.

The most popular Christmas song in America, Jingle Bells has not always been associated with Christmas, and its origins remain a controversial mystery to this day. Written in the 1850′s by James Lord Pierpont, an uncle of the famously wealthy financier John Pierpont Morgan, the song is not what we may think.
On Father’s Day many people make a special effort for their fathers or father figures. Some people visit their fathers, while others give cards, flowers or other gifts, such as clothing or sporting equipment, or luxury food items. Father’s Day is a relatively modern holiday, so different families have different traditions. These can range from a simple phone call or greeting card to large parties honoring all father figures in an extended family. Father figures can include fathers, step-fathers, fathers-in-law, grandfathers, great-grandfathers and even other male relatives.
The idea of a special day to honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood was introduced from the United States. There, a woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the American Mother’s Day celebrations to plan a day to honor fathers. In the USA, Father’s Day has been celebrated in June since 1910. The celebrations in the United Kingdom and other countries are thought to have been inspired by the American custom of Father’s Day.
Feeling the stress in your workplace? Why not brighten everyone’s day at the office with an Easter surprise? Hide plastic eggs in drawers, under desks, behind computers, in plants or other odd places you can think of. Some eggs can contain small candies or chocolates or small ‘pick me up’ notes to fellow employees or the boss. If you are the boss, surprise an employee with a coupon for an extra long lunch or a prime parking spot for the day. For more ideas, check out the links at the side. Be creative and enjoy this time of year to celebrate Easter!
